Started blogging late but here it is...

My name is Filimon. I from Seattle Washington and very excited to serve in Kenya for 27 month. I joined the Peace Corps KENYA as of June 5th, 2013. I am so ready and excited for my time in Kenya. It took me a while to update my blog but here it is...

We left the United States on June 4th and got to Nairobi Kenya on June 5th. We stayed in Nairobi for a few nights and arrived in Machakos our training town on June 8. We all met our home stay families that same day and we all left with our Kenyan home stay families on that same day.

In country Peace Corps training is 10 weeks. We are now in week 3.

PEACE CORPS WORLDWIDE

Peace Corps was founded on March 1, 1961 by President John F. Kennedy as an independent agency of the United States Government. In the last five decades over 200,00 volunteers have served worldwide in 139 country.

Peace Corps has three main goals:

To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women;

To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served;

To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Peace Corps is not a donor agency, but a human capacity building agency that assists countries through the provision of trained, motivated volunteers, all of whom are American citizens.

PEACE CORPS KENYA

Peace Corps Kenya is one of the oldest Peace Corps programs in Africa. Since 1964 Peace Corps has been assisting the government of Kenya in meeting its development goals by providing skilled volunteers in a variety of disciplines.

Currently Peace Corps volunteers support development in Kenya in three sectors: Community Economic Development (CED), Public Health and Education. Peace Corps Kenya is one of the few countries in the world hosting volunteer teachers in schools for the deaf. Peace Corps Kenya has responded to the HIV/AIDs epidemic through education, awareness and behavior change training by all Volunteers.
